Sgt. Pepper @ 50

Milapfest Sargeant Peppers at 50 6 - St Georges Hall - Production Supplier

We had the pleasure of being a part of this exciting event celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Beatles Album, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. Liverpool saw a number of events of a 2 week period to celebrate this milestone for the 8th studio album. Our involvement was for Milapfest, our Indian arts client and was held at the stunning St Georges Hall in Liverpool.

The Sgt. Pepper’s album had a wealth of indian music themes within the music and this grew into this incredible event running from 7am until 11pm. The event opened early for an Indian themed breakfast available in the Main Hall and early morning concert in the Concert Room, followed by food available all day and 3 more main concerts upstairs. This was then supplemented by stalls and other performances, including dance and discussions/learning in the main hall and side rooms.

From a technical perspective, our involvement incorporated 3 venues of live music and acts throughout the day.

Small Stage

Our first venue was the small and quaint stage that included music performances from members of Milapfest’s ensemble, Tarang, alongside talks and discussions over Indian music. As a small room with a small stage, we chose a system to match. This room used a pair of TW AUDiO M8’s and a B18 sub. Our iLive R72 was used for control (with an iDR10).

We also used a simple setup of LED Battens to bring some colour into the room.

Great Hall

The Great Hall was the primary event space, housing the many stalls and food alongside a stage for dance performances. This stage used an 2 TW AUDiO T24N boxes with 2 B30s underneath for amplification of vocal and track. This simple setup was controlled from a Yamaha LS9 and included Proel WD15A monitors and Sennheiser wireless microphones.

Concert Room

The Concert Room was the main space for the 4 headline concerts throughout the day – Morning, Afternoon, Evening, and Night. This room already had a Meyer Sound system installed but lacked low end that can be so critical for percussive Indian instruments so we supplemented the system with 2 TW AUDiO B18s. This venue featured some big names in classical Indian music and fusion so audio quality was critical but control space was at a premium so we opted to take the iLive 80 surface with an iDR10 configured to 56 ins and 24 outs. Mic package was primarily made up of DPA and Shure with some additional stock from Audio Technica and Sennheiser. Monitoring was run from FOH (and remotely during sound check via iPad) and consisted of 6 TW AUDiO C12 boxes. The low profile, compact box was ideal for both increasing stage space and maintaining good viewing angles from the audience up to the high levelled stage.

We didn’t want to detract from the incredibly decorated interior of the Concert Room so chose to highlight the walls and venue roof through LED Battens and 4 floor mounted moving lights.
